CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Hunter's Ale House Mudmen picked up a pair of come-from-behind victories during Nova Scotia Division 2 senior men’s rugby action on the weekend in Nova Scotia.
The wins improve the defending Maritime champion Mudmen to 3-0.
The Division 1 team wasn’t so lucky, as the defending Maritime champs dropped its season-opening game in Halifax.

Division 2
Mudmen 22, Eastern Shore 20
The P.E.I. squad travelled to the Eastern Shore on Saturday and found themselves in a 20-3 hole.
With 20 minutes remaining, the Mudmen seized the momentum. The Island squad took over and finished the game scoring 19 unanswered points to win 22-20.
Mudmen 63, Caledonia 19
In the Sunday afternoon affair in Pictou County, N.S., the Mudmen again fell behind, this time 13-3 in the first 15 mins.
After a few adjustments P.E.I. found its rhythm and started running on Caledonia. When the final whistle sounded the Mudmen walked away with a 63-19 victory.
Division 1
Halifax 38, Mudmen 11
The Mudmen opened the Division 1 season in Halifax against the rival Tars in a rematch of the past two league finals.
It was another chippy affair between the familiar foes.
The first half ended 6-6 with the Mudmen controlling the play in Halifax end.
Early into the second half, P.E.I.’s star forward Liam Carter was red-carded after a scuffle, putting the already-depleted Mudmen down a man for the remainder of the game.
The experienced Tars capitalized and took over the game winning 38-11.
Upcoming games
The Mudmen travel to Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley Saturday to battle Windsor and the Valley in Division 1 and Division 2 action, respectively. Both games will be played at King’s Edgehill School.
The Mudmen return to their home field in Charlottetown on July 27 for rugby day on P.E.I.
