SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Western Regals and Kings County Kings posted P.E.I. Midget AAA Hockey League playoff victories Wednesday night.

The Regals, led by Chase Gaudette’s three goals and three assists, defeated the Central Attack 11-0 in Game 1 of the best-of-five semifinal series. Meanwhile the Kings edged the Mid-Isle Matrix 5-4 in overtime to take a 2-0 lead in that semifinal series.

At the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton, Sam Hackett (2-1), James Doyle (2), Kalim DesRoches (1-1), Thomas Rennie (1-1), Carter Cahill and Jack Reilly also found the back of the net for the Regals.
Western built period leads of 3-0 and 6-0.
Cole Gallant registered the shutout.
Game 2 is at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown on Sunday at 4:10 p.m., with Game 3 back in Alberton on Tuesday at 8:20 p.m.

Kings 5 Matrix 4 (OT)
At the APM Centre in Cornwall, Gabe Hartlen’s goal at 8:39 of overtime gave the Kings the win. Riley Jamieson (2-2), Jake MacLaren (1-1) and Cam White rounded out the scoring for Kings County, which won the series opener 4-2 on Monday night.
Joe MacEachern (1-1), David Sato (1-1), Lucas Buch and Kyler Weeks replied for the Matrix.
The Matrix led 2-1 after the opening period, and the teams were knotted up 2-2 at the end of 40 minutes.
Winning goaltender was Ben Bruce.
Game 3 is in Souris on Friday at 8 p.m.
