Jared McIsaac is headed to Europe to play hockey this season.

The Detroit Red Wings loaned the Truro native to HFK of Finland's top professional league. The former Halifax Mooseheads defenceman was Detroit's second-round pick in the 2018 NHL draft but the latest updates are that pro hockey in North America won't start until December or January this season. The expectation is he will spend the entire season in Finland.

McIsaac, 20, appeared in 28 QMJHL games last season with the Mooseheads and Moncton Wildcats. He and centre Bo Groulx were traded to Moncton at mid-season. McIsaac also represented Canada for a second straight year at the world junior championship.

McIsaac had 143 points in 180 career games with the Mooseheads.
