PEAKES, P.E.I. — Jake MacLaren starting his Kings County Baseball League season with a bang in the Peakes Bombers 4-0 victory over the Stratford Athletics Sunday in Peakes.
MacLaren hit a three-run home run over the left-field fence in his first at-bat with the Bombers to get the host squad off to a four-run lead.
It was more than enough offence for Dillon Doucette, who threw a complete game, five-hit shutout for the victory.
The Bombers attack was balanced throughout the lineup with seven different hitters all having one hit. Noah Stewart drove in the first run of the game with a single in the second inning before MacLaren delivered the home run.
Brett Hicken went the distance for the Athletics, giving up four runs on seven hits and striking out four to take the loss. Jacob Smith went 2-for-3 to lead them at the plate.
Clippers 5, Brewers 0
The Cardigan Clippers beat the defending champion Northside Brewers 5-0 in eight innings to begin the season.
Sam Walsh pitched seven shutout innings for the win with Quinn Hughes coming in for the close in the eighth inning. Jayden Maclean took the loss.
Liam Laybolt went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Clippers offence.
