CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Ryan MacKinnon and Kameron Kielly of the UPEI Panthers were named to the first team all-star team and to the all-rookie team, respectively, in the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey awards released Wednesday.
MacKinnon, a third-year defenceman from Summerside, finished the regular season with five goals and 29 points in 30 games to lead all blue-liners in scoring.
Kielly, a freshman centre from Charlottetown, lit up the AUS with 13 goals and 42 points and finished second in the conference in scoring.
St. FX’s Chase Marchand was named AUS MVP, while rookie of the year went to Kris Bennett of the UNB Varsity Reds. Brad Peddle from St. FX took home the coach of year and UNB’s Randy Gazzola won the most sportsmanlike player and the student-athlete community service award.
Former Charlottetown Islanders forward Jake Coughler, now with Saint Mary’s, earned a spot on the all-rookie team.
