CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Janel MacKay and Simon Hofley are the UPEI Panther Subway athletes of the week.
MacKay is a second-year flanker on the women’s rugby team and a science major from South Granville. She scored a try in the Panthers 15-10 loss to Acadia.
“Janel was part of our dominant scrum and was a demon on defence,” said coach John LaBoyne. “Janel exemplified how hard the team competed.”
Hofley is a fourth-year goalie on the men’s hockey team and a business student from Ottawa. The Panthers went 1-1 during the weekend, beating Moncton 4-1 and losing 3-2 to top-ranked UNB. Hofley stopped 65 of 69 shots during the two games.
“Simon had a good week for us,” said coach Forbes MacPherson. “He stood strong against U de M in the third period, when they put a push on to tie the game. Simon did his job against UNB to give us a chance to win that game.”
