ALBERTON, P.E.I. — The Western Regals had a four-goal third period Tuesday to score a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the Sherwood Drug Mart Central Attack to take Game 1 of the Prince Edward Island Midget AAA Hockey League semifinal.

Western led 1-0 after the first period but went to the third trailing 3-2 at the Jacques Cartier Arena in Alberton.

Cody McCormick tied it 3:28 into the third on a power play while Michael McRae and Kalim DesRoches made it 5-3 for the home side with 12:41 to play.

Damiyan Boyle cut the lead to one with 2:27 left but that’s as close as the Attack would get. McCormick iced the game with an empty-net goal with seven seconds left.

Brett Ballum and Ethan Reilly also scored in the victory. Sam Hackett had two assists while singles were credited to DesRoches, McRae, Ballum and Chandler DesRoches.

Owen Matheson, Kyle Connell and Keegan Callaghan also scored for Central. Matthew Dunn, Ben Watts and Bates Ling each tallied two assists while Chris Koughan and Noah Dow each chipped in one.

Nylan Hustler earned the win while Aiden Rose took the loss.

Western was 1-for-2 on the power play and killed all four of Central’s chances with the man advantage.

Game 2 in the best-of-five series goes Thursday at 8:20 p.m. at Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown.
