SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Two solid home-ice wins and an extended winning streak were not enough to keep the Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals as a top-10-ranked team in Canada.
The Capitals fell from No. 9 to No. 12 in the latest Canadian Junior Hockey League’s top-20 rankings released Monday afternoon.
The Capitals, coming off a 7-4 win over the Grand Falls Rapids on Thursday and a 6-2 win versus the Campbellton Tigers on Saturday, sit atop the overall standings in the 12-team Maritime Junior Hockey League at 20-3-0 (won-lost-overtime losses).
The Capitals will put a 12-game winning streak on the line Thursday when the Rapids visit Eastlink Arena for the second time in a week. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
The Capitals have been ranked nationally for five straight weeks and seven of nine weeks this season.
The Caps are the only Maritime Junior Hockey League team ranked nationally this week.
