Volleyball Hurricanes fall in straight sets to visiting Tommies

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Holland Hurricanes’ men’s volleyball team lost in straight sets to the St. Thomas University (STU) Tommies at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement (CCE) in Charlottetown on Saturday.
This was the first match of 2020 for the Hurricanes in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) regular season.
Set scores were 25-17, 27-25 and 25-23 for the top-ranked Tommies.
Gordon Veitch and Nathan Wills led the attack for the Hurricanes with six kills each while Simon Archibald added five and Nick Blewett chipped in with three.
Archibald also led the way in assists with 12 and ended the match with five digs along with Brandon Hastings and Colby Boyle.
The ‘Canes fell to 1-6 on the season and remain in fourth place in the conference. The Tommies remain atop the standings at 6-1.
The Hurricanes will return to their home court against the third-place University of New Brunswick-Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves (3-4) this weekend. Match times at the Holland College CCE are Saturday at 3 p.m., and Sunday at 10 a.m.

Women
The women’s volleyball Hurricanes were scheduled to play at home versus the University of King’s College (UKC) Blue Devils on Sunday. However, the match was postponed due to the poor weather conditions and will be rescheduled for a later date.
The Holland College women’s team will host the UNBSJ Seawolves (2-6) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
