ANTIGONISH, N.S. — The UPEI Panthers scored three third-period goals Friday to hand the St. FX X-Women their first loss of the Atlantic University Sport women’s hockey season.

St. FX held 1-0 and 3-1 period leads in Antigonish, N.S., but Kelly Clements and Taylor Gillis scored 5:11 into the final frame to tie it and Jolena Gillard scored the winner five minutes later. The Panthers three goal-scorers in the final frame were all sophomores.

Faith Steeves scored the Panthers first goal shorthanded. Tiah Scichilone, Kaylee Dufresne, Ally Clements, Mireille Martin and Gillard each had an assist.

Tyra Meropoulis scored twice for St. FX while Jayden Thompson had the other.

Shaylin McFarlene made 39 stops for her first win in her first game as a Panther. Cassidy McEwen allowed four goals on 14 shots in the loss.

Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.

The Panthers improved to 5-1-0 while the X-Women are 4-1-0.
