CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is still scheduled to take place this fall in Summerside and Charlottetown.
Hockey Canada recently announced it had cancelled all summer camps for national teams due to the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic. Teams will hold online seminars to discuss things like at-home strength and conditioning plans, mental performance plans, nutrition and team-building activities.
Hockey Canada had to make some changes to the event hosting agreement following the cancellation of the 2019-20 season in March. While it is continuing to work with health authorities, Hockey Canada said the under-17 competition is still scheduled for Oct. 31 to Nov. 7 in Charlottetown and Summerside.
“It’s definitely great to see that they haven’t cancelled the event despite all the circumstances,” Hockey P.E.I. executive director Geoff Kowalski said. “They’re still optimistic.”
The tournament includes three teams from Canada plus national squads from Russia, Sweden, United States, Czech Republic and Norway.
