SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — In control from the word go, Treasureonthewater took top prize in the biggest race of the evening Tuesday at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway as part of Governor’s Plate week racing.
Brodie MacPhee was in the bike behind the Marc Campbell-trained trotter as she took the lead at the start in her $15,380 Atlantic Sires Stakes two-year-old trot division and cruised through splits of 32.3, 1:05, 1:37 and 2:07.2. Her stablemate Galeowind (Campbell) was second while Mr Finlay Ridge (Clare MacDonald) recovered from an early break to finish third. Treasureonthewater is owned by Steve MacKenzie of Charlottetown.
Countyline Scott scored an upset in his career debut, winning an $8,140 three-year-old division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes trot in 2:04.2 for driver David Dowling, trainer Blaine McKenna and owner Susanne MacKeigan of Albert Bridge, N.S.
Second went to Dusty Lane Del (Corey MacPherson) with West River Ellie (MacDonald) completing the triactor.
Mabou Ridge delivered as the favourite in the other three-year-old trot division, winning in 2:00.4 for trainer-driver MacDonald and owner Arnold Rankin of Antigonish, N.S. His arch-rival Tequila Tuesday (Myles Heffernan Sr.) was second ahead of Go With Her (MacPhee).
Campbell had a training double on the card as talented Shadow Play filly Plain Jane destroyed the first race of the program in her career debut in 1:57.3 by 25 lengths for owner Leigh Gavin of Tignish.
MacPhee had three driving wins on the card as he also scored with Windemeredontuworry in the $2,150 top overnight trot for trainer Norris Rogers of Summerside and in the finale with Much Adoo in 1:58 for trainer Ron Matheson of Charlottetown.
