CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The St. John’s Edge finished strong to defeat the Island Storm 118-110 Saturday in National Basketball League of Canada action at the Eastlink Centre.
It was the Edge’s first win of the season to improve to 1-4 while the Storm’s three-game winning streak is over, falling to 3-2.
The Storm held 28-25, 58-57 and 91-84 quarter leads before being outscored 34-19 in the final 12 minutes.
Cane Broome led the visitors with 20 points off the bench while Ryan Richardson and Junior Cadougan each chipped in 19 with Richardson scoring 10 in the fourth quarter. Karrington Ward had 16 rebounds and 12 points.
Alex Campbell had 24 points, five assists and four rebounds to lead the Storm. Point guard Johnathan Loyd had 22 points, nine assists, three rebounds and three steals while Antwon Lillard had 15 points and 15 rebounds and Nathaniel Wright contributed 19 points and seven boards off the bench.
The Edge held the advantage behind the arc, hitting 47 per cent (9-for-19) of its three-point attempts while the Storm hit 27 per cent (9-for-33) of its shots from downtown. There were 1,009 people at the game.
The Storm host the Moncton Magic (5-0) today at 2 p.m.
