Rydstrom, Kielly record four points as Panthers outlast Huskies

Felip Rydstrom and Kameron Kielly each registered four points to lead the UPEI Panthers to a 7-5 road victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Thursday night.
Rydstrom had two goals and two assists while Kielly sealed the win with an empty-net goal with five seconds remaining in regulation time after Owen Headrick (1-1) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal on the power play at 8:35 of the third period.
The Panthers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the opening period of the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey game, but the score was tied 5-5 at the end of 40 minutes.
Kyle Maksimovich (1-1), Jordan Maher (1-1) and TJ Shea also scored for the Panthers, who improved to 7-8-3 (won-lost-overtime losses). Nick Shumlanski added two assists.
Stephen Johnson (1-1), Anthony Repaci (1-1), Mitchell Balmas (1-1), Adam Bateman and Bronson Beaton replied for the Huskies (10-9-0).
Winning goaltender Simon Hofley stopped 35 of 40 shots. Eric Brassard made 18 saves on 24 shots in the Huskies’ goal.
The Panthers are back in action on Saturday against the Acadia Axemen (14-4-0). Game time at MacLauchlan Arena in Charlottetown is set for 7 p.m.
