MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Charlottetown Islanders defenceman Oscar Plandowski will play for bronze today with his Team Canada White teammates at the Under-17 World Hockey Challenge in Medicine Hat, Alta.
They will play the Czech Republic at 6 p.m. Atlantic.
White lost 7-3 to the United States Friday in semifinal action while the Russians shut-out the Czech’s 4-0 in the other semi. The Americans held 2-0 and 6-1 period leads. Plandowski did not register a point in the game but has four assists in five games during the tournament. The Halifax native has three assists in 16 games this season with the Isles.
The Americans will play Russia in the gold-medal game.
Islanders goalie Jacob Goobie played for Canada Red. He stopped 30 of 33 shots in a 4-2 loss to Sweden on Monday in his lone contest of the tournament. Red went 2-1 in preliminary round action before losing 3-2 to Canada White in quarter-final action. Red plays Sweden today in a placement game.
Goobie has a 3-2 record with a 3.68 goals-against average and a .883 save percentage with the Isles this season.
