CALGARY, Alta. — P.E.I.’s Suzanne Birt rink dropped a high-scoring game to Tracy Fleury’s wild-card team at the 2021 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Tuesday night.

The final score was 10-6.

Birt and her Cornwall Curling Club team of third Marie Christianson, second Meaghan Hughes, lead Michelle McQuaid, alternate Kathy O’Rourke and coach Mitch O’Shea now sit at 3-2 (won-lost) in round-robin play at the Canadian women’s curling championship.

The top four teams after the round robin advance to the championship pool.

P.E.I. plays the Jennifer Jones-skipped rink from Manitoba on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., Atlantic Time. Jones enters Wednesday’s play at 3-2.

P.E.I. will close out round-robin play on Thursday against Nunavut's Lori Eddy (0-6) at 11:30 a.m. and British Columbia's Corryn Brown (3-2) at 9:30 p.m.

The 18-team event is taking place at the Markin McPhail Centre at Canadian Olympic Park in Calgary.

P.E.I. never led against the Fleury rink, which is being skipped this week by Chelsea Carey. The wild-card team led 2-0 after two ends and 4-3 at the fifth-end break.

P.E.I. stole a single point in the sixth to tie the game 4-4, but a three-ender in the seventh end gave Team Fleury a 7-4 advantage.

Birt answered with a deuce in the eighth end to make it 7-6, but the Carey-skipped rink closed out the scoring with a single point in nine and a steal of two in the 10th.

The wild-card team curled 78 per cent, and P.E.I. had a team percentage of 75 per cent. McQuaid curled a game-high 89 per cent.
