P.E.I. plays Nunavut today at Brier

CALGARY, Alta. — P.E.I. looks for its first win today at Tim Hortons Brier.
The Island champs of skip Eddie MacKenzie, third Tyler Smith, second Sean Ledgerwood, lead Ryan Lowery and alternate Aaron Bartling from Alberta play Nunavut’s Peter Mackey-skipped rink in a battle of 0-4 teams at 4:30 p.m.
P.E.I., representing the Crapaud and Montague curling clubs, lost 11-7 to the Newfoundland and Labrador representatives skipped by Greg Smith in Monday’s late draw.
The game was tied 2-2 after two ends before Smith scored three in the third and stole a deuce in the fourth to take a 7-2 lead. The teams traded singles the next two ends before MacKenzie scored one in the seventh, stole one in eighth and two more in the ninth to cut the deficit to one. Smith counted three in the 10th to clinch the victory and improve to 1-4.
Charlottetown’s Brett Gallant is Team Canada’s second while Seven Mile Bay native Adam Casey is Manitoba’s third.
Manitoba (3-0) enters Tuesday’s play atop Pool A after defeating a wildcard team skipped by Mike McEwen’s 8-5 Monday. The Jason Gunnlaugson-skipped squad plays the Northwest Territories (0-3) today at 11:30 a.m. and New Brunswick (3-1) at 9:30 p.m.
Canada, skipped by Brad Gushue, is 2-2 after losing 6-5 to Saskatchewan Monday night.
Canada plays Nova Scotia today at 4:30 p.m.
