CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Former Charlottetown Islanders defenceman Olivier Desjardins had the overtime winner Wednesday as the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus defeated the UPEI Panthers 2-1 in overtime in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action.

Vincent Deslauriers and Joey Richard had the assists 3:40 into the extra frame.

Kyle Maksimovich gave the Panthers the lead 12:44 into the second period. Jordan Maher and Darian Pilon recorded assists.

Deslauriers tied the game five minutes later with Edouard Michaud recording the lone helper.

Etienne Montpetit stopped 26 shots for the win while Simon Hofley made 32 saves in the loss. Moncton improved to 6-4-3 while UPEI is 4-6-3.

The Panthers host the UNB Reds Saturday at 7 p.m. as part of UPEI Sports Legacy Celebration Week, which includes Thursday’s UPEI Sports Hall of Fame Dinner and Inductions. This year’s class includes football’s Vernon Pahl, soccer/hockey’s Tessa (Roche) Casey and the 1984-85 men’s hockey team.
