Panthers inch closer to playoff spot in AUS men's hockey

The Dalhousie Tigers kept their playoff hopes alive Monday, defeating the UPEI Panthers 5-4 in overtime in Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey action in Halifax.

Dalhousie improved to 6-18-2, seven points back of UPEI (8-13-5) for the final playoff berth with four games remaining in the regular season. The teams play again Friday in Halifax.

The Panthers held 2-1 and 4-2 period leads but Andrew Shewfelt and Michael Dill scored 5:26 into the third to tie the game and Zachary Taylor won it 2:18 into overtime.

Shewfelt had two goals on the night while Campbell Pickard had a goal and an assist and former Charlottetown Islanders forward Dillon Boucher added a pair of helpers.

Kameron Kielly had a goal and two assists for the Panthers while Filip Rydstrom had three assists and Kyle Maksimovich had a goal and a helper. Jordan Maher and Owen Headrick also scored while T.J. Shea had an assist.
Connor Hicks made 30 saves for the victory while Simon Hofley stopped 28 shots in the loss.

Both teams were 1-for-4 on the power play.
