Oliver scores three as Charlottetown Islanders blowout Titan

BATHURST, N.B. — The Charlottetown Islanders blasted the Acadie-Bathurst Titan for the second time in 10 days Sunday in Bathurst, N.B.

The Islanders used a six-goal second period en route to a 10-4 victory in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League pre-season play. Charlottetown won 9-6 on Sept. 11.

The Islanders trailed Sunday’s game 2-0 8:28 into the game but tied it before the first period intermission.

Top draft pick Sam Oliver had three goals and an assist in the win while veteran defenceman Noah Laaouan had a goal and three assists. Blue-liner Will Trudeau and forward Patrick LeBlanc each had a goal and two assists while Cedric Desruisseaux and Drew Johnston each scored one and helped set up another.

Oscar Plandowski and Zac Beauregard also scored while assists went to Ryan Maynard, Anthony Hamel, Keiran Gallant, Justin Gill and Thomas Casey. It was Plandowski's first major junior goal (pre-season or regular season).

Yannic Bastarache, Alexis Dube and David Doucet each had a goal and an assist for the home side while captain Mathieu Desgagnes rounded out the scoring. Summerside native Bennett MacArthur chipped in an assist.

Jacob Goobie stopped 19 shots for the win while Tommy DaSilva allowed six goals on 25 shot in 29:33 and was tagged with the loss. Pierre-Vincent Guignard allowed four goals on 16 shots in relief.

Charlottetown was 3-for-4 on the power play and killed all six of Bathurst’s chances with the man advantage.

The Isles (2-2) complete the pre-season Sept. 26 in Dartmouth, N.S., against the Halifax Mooseheads. They begin the regular season Oct. 2 at Moncton and play the next five games on the road before returning to Charlottetown for their home opener on Oct. 23 against the Saint John Sea Dogs.
