White, Creed, Sherry lead way in championship game vs. Summerside

Montague won the 2019 Consolidated Credit Union midget A female hockey tournament at Credit Union Place in Summerside on Sunday afternoon. SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — There was no lack of drama at Credit Union Place last weekend.

The 2019 Consolidated Credit Union midget A female hockey tournament featured a number of close games, including a pair of playoff contests involving the host Summerside Capitals.
Brinley Gallant’s goal in overtime gave the Capitals a 4-3 semifinal win over Tyne Valley to advance to the championship game against Montague.
The final also had fans on the edge of their seats as there was no score through the first two periods. Julie Lea set up Lacey White with what proved to be the winning goal with 8:19 remaining in the third period to give Montague a 1-0 lead. Brianna Creed, assisted by Maggie Murphy, would add an insurance goal with 6:43 left and tournament all-star Abby Sherry recorded the shutout in Montague’s 2-0 title-clinching victory.
Lea, Murphy, Halle Stewart and Gabby MacDonald scored for Montague in its 4-0 win over Capital District in the semifinals. Sherry also earned the shutout in that game.
The first period was scoreless and Montague took a 1-0 lead into the final frame.
Briana McCardle, Abby Taylor and Maggie Johnston scored in regulation time for the Capitals against Tyne Valley. Reece Williams (2) and Madison Powers, who tied the game 3-3 with just under five minutes remaining, countered for Montague.
The period scores were 2-1 and 3-2 in favour of Summerside.
