CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Connor Hicks made 31 saves Saturday to backstop the last-place Dalhousie Tigers to a 3-2 victory over the UPEI Panthers to close out the 2019 portion of the Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey schedule.
Logan Johnston’s goal 11:22 into the third period was the winner. Duncan MacIntyre on the power play and Matt Green with five seconds left in the second period also scored for the Tigers at MacLauchlan Arena.
Connor Welsh had two assists while Jonathan Cyr, Chandler Yakimowicz and Michael Dill each had one.
Darian Pilon had a power-play goal and an assist to lead the Panthers while Jordan Maher had the other goal. Troy Lajeunesse, Kameron Kielly and Owen Headrick each had an assist.
Simon Hofley made 16 stops in the loss for the Panthers, who are 6-8-3 and five points up on the Tigers (4-12-2) for sixth place in the seven-team conference.
Dalhousie was 1-for-3 on the power play while UPEI was 1-for-5. The Panthers led 1-0 after the first period but went to the third trailing 2-1.
The Panthers return to AUS action Thursday, Jan. 2 in Halifax against the Saint Mary’s Huskies.
