VANCOUVER, B.C. — Stratford native Zack MacEwen has his first NHL goal.
The 23-year-old Vancouver Canucks centre tipped a Jordie Benn point shot past Ottawa Senators goalie Anders Nilsson late in the first period of Tuesday’s game in Vancouver. It was part of the Canucks 5-2 victory on a night Alex Burrows was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honour.

The six-foot-three, 205-pound MacEwen has a goal on three shots and an assist in seven games this season with the Canucks. He started the season with the AHL’s Utica Comets, where he had three goals and five assists for eight points in 13 games.
MacEwen made his NHL debut Feb. 16 at San Jose. He played four games in 2018-19 recording an assist Feb. 11 at home against the Sharks.
MacEwen’s journey to the NHL isn’t the norm. He went from minor midget to major midget, junior A to major junior. The power forward, who went undrafted in major junior and the NHL, blossomed as an overager with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Gatineau Olympiques in 2016-17, scoring 31 goals and 74 points to go along with 90 penalty minutes in 66 games.
