CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Colin Koughan’s goal in the eighth round of the shootout lifted the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros to a 5-4 victory over the Arsenault’s Fish Mart Western Red Wings on Wednesday night.
The Island Junior Hockey League game was played at the Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown.
Alex Morrissey scored on the Red Wings’ first shot of the shootout and Nick Currie’s goal in Round 3 kept the Metros alive. That was all the only scoring up until Koughan’s game-winning goal.
Matt Jelley earned the goaltending win and Cole Gallant was between the pipes for Western.
Currie (1-1), Nick Bowman, Hunter Bradley and Teddy Robbins scored in regulation time for the Metros, who moved into sole possession of second place at 8-7-1 (won-lost-overtime losses).
Isaac Callaghan (2-1), Isaac Knox (1-2) and Chandler Wood countered for the first-place Red Wings (10-1-2).
The teams were tied 1-1 after the opening period and the Red Wings took a 3-1 advantage into the second intermission.
