KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — It was a good start to a busy weekend for the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild.
The Wild, who sits second in the New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League at 19-8-3 (won-lost-overtime losses), posted a 6-1 road win over the Cape Breton West Islanders in an interlocking game with the Nova Scotia Major Midget Hockey League on Friday night. The Wild then defeated the Charlottetown Bulk Carriers Knights 6-2 on Saturday night and concluded the stretch of three games in less than 72 hours in the New Brunswick capital against the Fredericton Caps (14-16-1) on Sunday afternoon. The result of that game was not available at press time.
The Knights opened weekend play with a 3-2 victory on Friday night over the Northern Moose from Bathurst, N.B.

Five unanswered goals

Before a good-sized crowd at Credit Union Centre, the Wild scored five unanswered third-period goals to overcome a 2-1 deficit after 40 minutes.
Three assistant captains in their final year of midget eligibility teamed up to tie the game 2-2 as Reid Peardon drove to the goal and banged home a loose puck at 2:41 after some hard work by Dixon MacLeod and Landon Clow. The equalizer came with three seconds remaining in a four-minute power play that carried over from the second period.
Some more tremendous hard work by MacLeod behind the Charlottetown net led to Clow’s game-winning goal at 5:54. MacLeod battled three Charlottetown players for possession of the puck while Kensington was killing a penalty and was able to feed Clow, who squeezed the puck past Knights goaltender Jack Howatt on the short side from a sharp angle.
Donovan Arsenault, on a perfect pass from his brother Austin Arsenault, made no mistake scoring into the open side of the net from the left wing to make it 4-2 at 7:35. Austin added another insurance marker at 10:51 and hard-working affiliated player Clark Allain of the O’Leary-based Prince County Warriors’ major bantam team closed out the scoring with an empty-net goal at 17:56.
Matt McQuaid also scored for the Wild. MacLeod (2), Clow (2), Austin Arsenault, Alex Graham and Reid Vos were credited with assists.
Simon Hughes scored both goals for the Knights (9-17-4). Jesse Blanchard, Landon MacDonald, Cam MacLean and Colby Huggan drew assists.
Overall, the Wild outshot the Knights 36-30. Josh Smith earned  the goaltending win.
The Wild visits the Moose in Richibucto, N.B., on Friday night and returns home to host the first-place Moncton Flyers (29-2-1) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
