Kensington loses 6-5 in a shootout to Saint John in major under-18 hockey action

KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — Kiefer Lyons scored four times, including the shootout winner, Saturday to pace the Saint John Vito’s to a 6-5 victory over the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild in New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Under-18 Hockey League action in Kensington.

Matthew McRae added a goal and an assist in the win while Riley Rooney rounded out the scoring for the first-place Vito’s (4-0-0).

Alex Graham and Jack Rowell each had a goal and an assist for the home side while Kieran Rennie, Carson MacKay and Jamie Collins also found the back of the net. Bates Ling had two assists while Max Sentner, Connor Pierce, Brennan Murphy and Ethan Dickson each chipped in one.

Alexander Myatt stopped 29 shots for the win while Kiefer Thompson had 20 saves in the loss.

Saint John held a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes while the game was tied at 4 heading to the third. McRae scored with less than eight minutes to play to give the visitors the lead while MacKay potted the equalizer with 59 seconds remaining.

Kensington takes a 0-2-1 record into this afternoon’s game in Bathurst, N.B., with the Northern Moose (0-3-0).
