MONCTON, N.B. — Charlottetown Islanders goalie Jacob Goobie stopped 29 shots for his first career victory in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) Sunday in Moncton.
Gaetan Jobin, Nikita Alexandrov, Xavier Bernard and William Trudeau each had a goal and an assist as the Isles defeated the Wildcats 5-3. It was Trudeau’s first points in the QMJHL.
Liam Peyton also scored while Thomas Casey had a pair of assists while singles went to Kevin Gursoy, Cedric Desruisseaux and Zac Beauregard.
Alexander Khovanov, Jakob Pelletier and Zachary L’Heureux scored for Moncton.
Cornwall’s Jordan Spence, Tristan Dejong, Christian Huntley, Manuel Alberg and Pelletier each had an assist.
Olivier Rodrigue stopped 33 shots in the loss.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first period while the Islanders took a 4-1 lead to the third. Moncton scored two power-play goals in the first 9:09 of the third before Trudeau scored the insurance marker at 10:27 to preserve the victory for Goobie in his first major junior start.
The Islanders were 0-for-2 on the power play.
Charlottetown improved to 3-0-1-0 while Moncton is 2-2-0-0. The Islanders host the Saint John Sea Dogs Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre.
