CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Halifax Mooseheads handed the Charlottetown Islanders their first regulation loss of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season Monday in Charlottetown.

The Herd went 3-for-6 on the power play and killed all five of the Islanders chances with the man advantage while Alexis Gravel stopped 49 shots in a 4-1 victory.

Maxim Trepanier scored on the power play and shorthanded for Halifax while Seena Peeters and Raphael Lavoie also scored with the man advantage. Lavoie, Bo Groulx, Samuel Dube, Marcel Barinka, Patrick Kyte and Zack Jones had the assists.

Kevin Gursoy broke Gravel’s shutout bid with 39 seconds left in regulation. Drew Johnston and Liam Peyton had the assists.

Matthew Welsh made 22 stops in the loss.

Halifax, which held 2-0 and 3-0 period leads despite being outshot 18-9 and 16-10, respectively, improved to 7-4-0-0 while Charlottetown dropped to 7-1-2-0.

The Islanders head to Sydney, N.S., Wednesday to play the Cape Breton Eagles before hosting the Saint John Sea Dogs Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Eastlink Centre.
