CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Cedric Desruisseaux scored the shootout winner Saturday as the Charlottetown Islanders defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 2-1 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action at the Eastlink Centre.
Brett Budgell also scored for the Isles in the shootout while captain Shawn Element countered for the Titan.
Nikita Alexandrov opened the scoring for the home squad with a power-play goal 8:32 into the third period. Lukas Cormier and Desruisseaux had the assists.
Element tied it five minutes later with a power-play goal. Anderson MacDonald and Jeremy Diotte had the helpers.
Rookie Jacob Goobie made 25 saves in regulation and overtime, plus four more in the shootout, for the victory. Overage goalie Tristan Berube made 30 stops in the first 65 minutes plus three more in the shootout for the Titan.
Charlottetown was 1-for-2 on the power play while Acadie-Bathurst was 1-for-4.
The Islanders improved to 7-0-2-0 while the Titan is 0-6-1-2.
The Halifax Mooseheads visit Charlottetown Monday at 3 p.m.
