CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Holland College Hurricanes swept the Crandall Chargers Saturday in Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association women’s volleyball action.
The host ’Canes won 25-12, 25-16, 25-12 to improve to 3-0 while the Chargers are 0-2.
Kateia Barenaba and Zayley Murphy each had seven kills while Amanda de Carvalho Brito had six and Abby Hyndman five in the win. Barenaba also had five aces while Marissa Macaulay had four. Jenna MacFarlane had seven digs while Murphy and Taylor Bourdreau-Deveaux each chipped in six and de Carvalho Brito had two blocks.
The Hurricanes are in Fredericton, N.B., today to play the St. Thomas Tommies (1-1) at 1 p.m.
Men’s volleyball
The Hurricanes men’s squad defeated the UNBSJ Seawolves for its first win of the season.
The Hurricanes won 3-1 (25-21, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18) to improve to 1-2 while the Seawolves are 1-1.
Cole McKey and Gordon Veitch led the ’Canes’ attack with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, while Nick Blewett had five aces. Colby Boyle and Veitch had 14 and 12 digs, respectively, and Blewett had four blocks.
The teams play Saturday, Nov. 16, in Saint John, N.B.
