CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — The Western Red Wings struck for four goals in the final 11 minutes to break open a close game en route to a 7-3 decision over the Sherwood-Parkdale A&S Scrap Metal Metros on Wednesday night.
The Cody Banks Arena in Charlottetown was the site of the Island Junior Hockey League contest.
The Metros led 2-1 after the opening period and the teams entered the second intermission tied 3-3.
Silas Handrahan had a goal and two assists to pace the Red Wings offensively while Bryden Smith scored twice and Dawson McCormack, Isaac Knox and Isaac Callaghan all contributed a goal and an assist. Austin Taylor added a single tally. Ethan Beaulieu and Chandler Wood each chipped in with a pair of helpers as Western improved to 2-0-0 (won-lost-overtime losses).
Keegan Mitchell, Cale Pierce and Drew Bowman replied for the Metros (0-1-0). Barrington Duffy had two assists.
Luke Oliver earned the goaltending win over Noah Laybolt.
Referees Travis Timmons and Thane Arsenault called four minor penalties against each team.
The Metros and Red Wings will meet again on Sunday in Abram-Village. Game time at the Evangeline Recreation Centre is 2:15 p.m.
