Hackett leads Western to victory over Mid-Isle in P.E.I. under-18 hockey

ALBERTON, P.E.I. — Sam Hackett had a five-point night Saturday as the Western Regals defeated the Robin’s Mid-Isle Matrix 8-5 in P.E.I. Under-18 AAA Hockey League action.

Hackett and Carson Wood each scored twice while singles went to Carson MacArthur, Marshall Gallant, Kolby Baker and Rankin Noye at the Jacques Cartier Memorial Arena in Alberton.

Hackett had three assists while Wood, MacArthur, Connor Ellsworth and Michael McRae were each credited with two. Gallant, Garrett Culleton and Colby MacDonald chipped in singles.

Gage Taylor had three goals and an assist to pace Mid-Isle’s attack. Carson MacDougall added a goal and an assist while Ryder Howatt rounded out the scoring.

Jayden Murphy had two helpers while singles were credited to Jacob Doucette, Myles Grant, Graysen LaPorte, Will Mix, Gabe Taweel and Reese Wyand.

Turner Ellis earned the win while Ty Arsenault took the loss.

Western held 2-1 and 3-1 period leads before the teams combined for nine goals in the final frame. Mid-Isle went 2-for-14 on the power play while Western was 1-for-10.

The Regals improved to 7-6-5, one point back of third-place Mid-Isle (8-7-4) in the league’s five-team standings.
