SYDNEY, N.S. — Pat Guay scored the first two goals of his Charlottetown career Sunday to pace the Islanders to a 5-2 win over the Cape Breton Eagles in Sydney, N.S.
He now has five points in five games since being acquired in a trade with the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Guay had the first two goals of Sunday’s Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game.
Defenceman Noah Laaouan, a former Eagle, scored the winner shorthanded after breaking his stick on the shot. Captain Brett Budgell and rookie Sam Oliver also scored.
Thomas Casey had two assists while singles went to Keiran Gallant, Cédric Desruisseaux and Laaouan.
Dawson Stairs and Felix Pare responded with goals for Cape Breton. Liam Kidney had two assists while Stairs and Pare each had one.
Jacob Goobie stopped 26 shots in the win while William Grimard had 31 saves in the loss.
Charlottetown held 1-0 and 4-1 period leads. Cape Breton was 2-for-9 on the power play and killed both of the Isles’ chances with the man advantage.
Zac Beauregard served his one-game suspension for high stick he received in Saturday’s game in Halifax.
The Islanders improved to 17-4-0-0 after winning both weekend games while the Eagles are 10-12-0-0. Charlottetown hosts the Halifax Mooseheads (8-11-2-3) Tuesday at the Eastlink Centre.
