SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — Two forwards from Charlottetown were key offensive contributors for the Miramichi Timberwolves in a Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) game Friday night.
Kennedy Gallant, who was named the game’s second star, scored two goals and added an assist. Teammate Connor McGregor lit the lamp once and collected a helper as the Timberwolves fell 5-4 in overtime to the host Edmundston Blizzard.
Gallant’s second goal of the night with 1:16 remaining in regulation time sent the game to overtime. McGregor assisted on the equalizer.
Gallant and McGregor are both off to fast starts through Miramichi’s first eight games of the regular season. McGregor has five goals and nine assists for 14 points. Gallant has scored four goals and collected seven assists for 11 points.
Elsewhere in the MHL on Friday night, North Bedeque native Coleton Perry earned an assist for the host Campbellton Tigers in a 5-3 loss to the Grand Falls Rapids.
Perry has earned five assists in seven regular-season contests.
On Thursday night, Evan Gallant of Abram-Village had a goal and an assist in helping the Pictou County Crushers to a 4-1 victory over the Amherst Ramblers.
Gallant, who has two goals, improved his point total to seven in eight games.
Amherst goaltender Tyler Caseley of Kensington stopped 24 of 28 shots in the game.
In five games this season, Caseley is 3-2-0 (won-lost-overtime losses) with a 1.60 goals-against average and .942 save percentage.
