CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Wearing down her rivals in the stretch drive, Filly Forty Seven was first to the wire Sunday in the featured fillies and mares open at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Marc Campbell was in the driver’s seat of his trainee in the $2,500 feature as Filly Forty Seven came first-over on Woodmere Skyroller (David Dowling) and prevailed in 1:57.4. Woodmere Skyroller was second while Temagami Seelster (Kenny Arsenault) came in third. A six-year-old daughter of Proven Lover, Filly Forty Seven is owned by Darryl MacLean of Winsloe, Cory Carver of Montague, Katelyn Smallwood of Mermaid and Alan MacDonald of Orwell.
Dowling celebrated a driving triple on the program, including a pair of wins from the Earl Watts barn. Dowling landed on the wire first with his own Slide Guitar in Race 3 in a deadheat with Rockstar Drums (Gordie Hennessey) in 2:01.3. Then Windemere Albert and Dowling scored in Race 4 in 2:01.1 for Watts, followed by another win from that barn in Race 7 as Howmac Missy circled up in 2:01.1.
Smart Official remained red hot in the afternoon finale as the Peter Lanigan trainee won his second straight with Gilles Barrieau in the bike, this time in 1:59.1. The son of Art Official has four wins and a second in his last five starts.
Barrieau celebrated three victories on the day as he also visited the historic winner’s circle with Collective Wisdom (1:59.2) for trainer Chad Taylor and with Here Comes Red (1:59.1) from the Wade Sorrie stable.
Live racing shifts to Saturday’s only for the next three weeks before cards on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve to close out the calendar year.
