CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Basketball players Jenna Mae Ellsworth and Elijah Miller are the UPEI Panther Subway athletes of the week.
Ellsworth, a fourth-year guard and a science major from Charlottetown, averaged 25 points, 8.5 rebounds and three assists in two weekend wins at Saint Mary’s.
“Jenna Mae continues to drive the group forward as we hit the midway point of the season,” said coach Matt Gamblin. “We continue to strive to get better every day and Jenna Mae leads the way with her commitment and work ethic.”
Miller, a rookie point guard and business major from Etobicoke, Ont., leads the league in assists at 6.1 per game. He averaged seven points, 9.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and three steals in two weekend losses at Saint Mary’s.
“Elijah has established himself as one of the bright new stars in our league,” said coach Darrell Glenn.
The Panthers travel to Sydney, N.S., Saturday for four-point games with the Cape Breton Capers. The women play at 6 p.m. with the men hitting the hard wood at 8 p.m.
