CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Jenna Mae Ellsworth and Jamesley Jerome are the UPEI Panther Subway athletes of the week.
Ellsworth is a fourth-year guard on the women’s basketball team and a science major from Charlottetown. She averaged 21.5 points per game in a two-game sweep of the St. FX X-Women.
“Jenna Mae had another great weekend and led the team on both ends of the floor,” said head coach Matt Gamblin. “She’s playing the best basketball of her career. The element which is scary for opponents is how much room there is for her to grow. She always strives to improve. Every day we are trying to add tools to her game.”
Jerome is a second-year forward on the men’s basketball team and an arts major from Montreal. The Panthers earned a weekend split with St. FX with Jerome averaging 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds.
“Jamesley, suffering from patellar tendonitis for much of the second half of the season, came off the bench both nights and put together a very impressive performance,” said head coach Darrell Glenn.
Jerome went 19-for-31 (61.3 per cent) from the floor and 7-for-9 from the free-throw line while hauling down 23 rebounds and dishing out five assists.
