CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Colten Ellis and Charlie DesRoches have been recognized by the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
Ellis, the 20-year-old Charlottetown Islanders’ goalie, and DesRoches, the 18-year-old Saint John Sea Dogs’ defenceman, are part of the Videotron team of the week, announced Monday by the league.
Ellis stopped all 25 shots he faced in a 5-0 shutout of the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday. The River Denys, N.S., native is 4-0 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage this season. He was acquired in June in a blockbuster trade with the Rimouski Oceanic.
DesRoches, a Days Corner native, had two assists and was a plus-3 in Saturday’s 5-4 shootout loss to Halifax. He has three assists in four games this season.
The team of the week also included Halifax rookie forward Markus Vidicek plus Acadie-Bathurst Titan forwards Felix-Antoine Marcotty and Mathieu Desgagnes and their teammate Adam McCormick, a blue-liner acquired from the Cape Breton Eagles during the off-season. Marcotty was named the player of the week with a goal and five assists in two games.
There were only four games in the league last week due to a shut down in Quebec because of the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic.
The Islanders host the Sea Dogs on Friday at 7 p.m.
