BATHURST, N.B. — Cedric Desruisseaux scored twice in overtime as the Charlottetown Islanders defeated the Acadie-Bathurst Titan 4-3 Saturday in northern New Brunswick.

The first goal was waved off as the officials deemed the puck was put in with a kicking motion. The 19-year-old scored moments later as the Islanders snapped a four-game losing streak. Desruisseaux has nine goals on the season with five being game-winning markers.

The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game was tied 1-1 after the first period and the Titan took a 2-1 lead to the third despite being outshot 29-16.

Lukas Cormier tied it midway through the third and Nikita Alexandrov put the visitors ahead 2:23 later, but Mathieu Desgagnes forced overtime when he beat Matthew Welsh with 3:15 to play for his second of the night.

Alexandrov had a goal and two assists while Cormier had a goal and an assist and Thomas Casey set up a pair of goals. Ethan Crossman also scored in the win while defencemen Noah Laaouan and Chris McQuaid each chipped in an assist.

Mark Rumsey scored for the Titan. Riley Kidney and Logan Chisholm each had two assists while Remy Anglehart and Olivier Coulombe each had one.

Welsh stopped 17 shots for the win while Tristan Berube was peppered with 50 shots in the Titan crease. Welsh is about 114 minutes away from becoming the league’s leader in minutes played by a goalie in a career. Ryan Mior, who played for the PEI Rocket and Gatineau Olympiques from 2003-2008, holds the record at 12,933:20.

Acadie-Bathurst went 1-for-6 on the power play and killed all five of Charlottetown’s chances with the man advantage.

The Islanders improved to 28-25-5-0 while the last-place Titan are 11-38-4-4. They play each other again Sunday, this time in Charlottetown at 3 p.m.
