CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown’s Ava Boutilier was named NCAA women’s hockey’s second star of the week on Tuesday.

The goalie also won her fourth defensive player of the week honours this season from Hockey East. She stopped 58 of 60 shots to backstop the University of New Hampshire Wildcats to a quarter-final sweep of the Providence College Friars. She had a .967 save percentage, a 1.00 goals-against average and recorded a 35-save shutout, plus chipped in an assist on the game-winning goal in the series-clinching contest.

She has two assists this season, becoming the only Wildcat goalie to accomplish the feat during the past 20 seasons.

She also was named the Hockey East goalie of the month on Tuesday. She had a .969 save percentage and a 0.99 goals-against average in seven games while sporting a 4-2-1 record.

Becca Gilmore of Harvard earned the national first star award while Clarkson’s Marie-Pier Coulombe was the third star.

New Hampshire will play the University of Connecticut Huskies Saturday in its first semifinal appearance since 2010. The winner of the one game plays in the final on Sunday, March 8, against the winner of the Northeastern-Maine semifinal.
