CHARLOTTETOWN, N.L. — Former Charlottetown Islander Filip Chlapik has re-signed with the Ottawa Senators.

The NHL team announced the one-year, two-way contract on Tuesday. It pays the 23-year-old Prague, Czech Republic, native $735,000 in the NHL and $70,000 in the AHL.

He split 2019-20 between Ottawa and their AHL affiliate in Belleville, Ont., for the third straight season. He had three goals and three assists in 31 NHL games and 10 goals and 12 assists in 37 AHL games.

“Filip’s a competitive player who works hard,” Senators’ general manager Pierre Dorion said in a release. “He has applied himself to becoming an important player for us in Belleville. We’re confident that work ethic will be equally as effective for him as he strives to become the same type of player in Ottawa.”

Chlapik was a second-round pick (48th overall) of the Senators in 2015. He played three seasons for the Islanders between 2014 and 2017, culminating in a 91-point campaign (34 goals and 57 assists) in 57 regular season games as the Islanders made it to the semifinal.
