SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — The Summerside D. Alex MacDonald Ford Western Capitals prevailed over the Truro Bearcats on Friday night.
The Caps outscored the Bearcats 4-2 in the third period en route to a 5-3 win in the Maritime Junior Hockey League contest, played before 700 fans at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
Brodie MacArthur’s goals at 11:36 and 17:26 proved to be the difference for the Caps, who improved to 9-3-0 (won-lost-overtime losses). MacArthur’s second tally came into an empty net.
Zach Thususka (1-1), Ed McNeill and Riley MacDougall also scored for the Caps. Nick Reeves (2), Marc-Andre LeCouffe, Josh MacDonald, Gianluca Fuoco, Zach Biggar, Bennett MacArthur and Isaac Wilson chipped in with assists.
Carson Lanceleve (1-1), Spencer Blackwell (1-1) and Ben Higgins replied for the Bearcats (2-7-3).
The first period was scoreless and the teams entered the final 20 minutes tied 1-1.
Winning goaltender Alec MacVicar stopped 29 of 32 shots. Alec MacDonald turned aside 33 of 37 shots for the Bearcats.
The game’s three stars were:
1. Zach Thususka (Caps), 2. Nick Reeves (Caps), 3. Carson Lanceleve (Bearcats).
The Caps host the Campbellton Tigers (6-2-1) at Eastlink Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m.
