SYDNEY, N.S. — Osman Omar had a game-high 25 points to lead the Cape Breton Capers to a 76-66 win over the UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball.

Cooper Ward (14 points and 11 rebounds) and Paul Watson (13 rebounds and 12 points) each had double-doubles for the Capers in the home victory.

Elijah Miller had 21 points, five assists and four rebounds to lead the Panthers while Jamesley Jerome had 11 points and 11 rebounds and Jack MacAulay scored 14 points against his former team. Magdi Tiea chipped in 10 rebounds.

Cape Breton led 18-13 after the first quarter but trailed 29-28 at the half. The Capers outscored the Panthers 24-11 to take a 52-40 lead to the fourth quarter.

The home side held a slight advantage from the field (41-40 per cent) and from three-point territory (33-32 per cent). The Panthers shot better from the free-throw line (73-64 per cent) but made 17 fewer trips to the line.

Cape Breton improved to 5-6 while UPEI (2-9) dropped its fourth straight game and sits in the basement of the eight-team league.
