New dates were announced Monday for the 2022 Canada Games in the Niagara Region of Ontario.
The Games will begin Saturday, Aug. 6, with an opening ceremony at the Meridian Centre in St. Catharines, while the closing ceremony will take place Sunday, Aug. 21, at Queen Victoria Park in Niagara Falls.
The multi-sport competition was forced to push back the event from 2021 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic.
“Following our decision to postpone the Games, we are excited to share our new dates and redirect our planning efforts towards August 2022,” said Doug Hamilton, chairman of the Niagara Host Society. “We look forward to celebrating Canada’s largest multi-sport event in Niagara in August of 2022.”
The Canada Games Council is working with sport partners to determine athlete eligibility rules with a resolution expected in early 2021.
