CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A pair of former Charlottetown Islanders were traded for each other on Friday.

The San Jose Sharks traded goalie Antoine Bibeau to the Colorado Avalanche for defenceman Nicolas Meloche.

“Nicolas is a strong right-shot defenceman who helps complete our left and right balance on the blue-line,” said Sharks assistant general manager Joe Will. “His game is a blend of offence and defence and we feel that his assets will complement our young defensive prospects.”

Meloche, 22, had six goals and 15 assists for 21 points in 55 games for the Colorado Eagles of the AHL last season. The six-foot-three, 205-pound defenceman finished his junior career with the Islanders in the second half of the 2016-17 season.

Bibeau, 25, went 39-27-9 during two seasons with the Sharks AHL affiliate, the San Jose Barracuda.
“Antoine has meant a lot to the San Jose Barracuda,” said Will. “This move was a difficult decision to make, but it will provide an opportunity to the other goaltenders in our strong prospect pool.”
Bibeau played 2 ½ seasons with the P.E.I. Rocket/Islanders organization from 2011-12 to 2013-14.
