MIRAMICHI, N.B. — Defenceman Zac Arsenault of Montague scored the winning goal for the Grand Falls Rapids on Saturday night.

Arsenault's goal at 5:40 of the third period gave the Rapids a 5-3 lead over the host Miramichi Timberwolves. Grand Falls would go on to win the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) game 7-4.

It was the first goal of the 2020-21 season for Arsenault, who is an assistant captain in his second season with the Rapids. Arsenault has six points in nine regular-season games.

Forward Connor McGregor of Charlottetown earned an assist for the Timberwolves to continue his hot start. In nine games, McGregor has five goals and 10 assists for 15 points.

Also on Saturday, forward Dylan Matthews of Mermaid earned two assists and was named the game’s second star in helping the Valley Wildcats to a 4-1 victory over the South Shore Lumberjacks.

Matthews has seven points – all assists – in 10 regular-season games.

Ethan Landry, who has family connections to P.E.I., scored his fourth goal of the season for Valley. Landry, who was the first overall pick in the 2020 MHL Entry Draft, has seven points in 10 contests.
