Larter, McQuaid skating at Canada Cup

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – Island speed skaters Jenna Larter and Peter McQuaid will take to the ice at the inaugural Short Track Canada Cup speed skating competition starting Friday in Laval, Que.
The Speed Skate P.E.I. members will be among an elite field of 60 male and 60 female athletes competing at Place Bell in Laval. The Canada Cup is the primary qualifying event for the Canadian Junior Short Track Championships to be held in Calgary in mid-December.
McQuaid earned his Canada Cup qualifying times on the Quebec circuit earlier this fall, while Larter secured her invite based on her national junior ranking from the 2017-18 season. Both Island skaters will be looking to earn their first berths in the Canadian Junior Short Track Championships, which will feature the top 32 junior male and junior female skaters from across the country.
Larter enters the Canada Cup fresh from a second-place overall showing at a Quebec provincial circuit meet last weekend.
Competition gets underway Friday with the 1,500-metre event, followed by 500-metre racing on Saturday and the 1,000-metre competition on Sunday.
