Lajoie-Gravelle leads Carabins past Capers to win U Sports men's soccer title

VANCOUVER — Omar Kreim set up Frederic Lajoie-Gravelle for the game-winning goal in the 109th minute and the Montreal Carabins beat the Cape Breton Capers 2-1 on Sunday to win the Canadian university men's soccer championship.

The game was a rematch of last year's U Sports national championship final where the Capers edged the Carabins 3-2 on penalty kicks.

Lajoie-Gravelle was named tournament MVP with five goals over the weekend.

Guy-Frank Essome Penda opened scoring for Montreal just 84 seconds into the match.

Caelann Budhoo got Cape Breton on the board with a couple of minutes left in the first half.

Earlier, Gabriel Bitar scored twice as the Carleton Ravens downed the Trinity Western Spartans 3-0 in the bronze-medal match.
