OTTAWA – Prince Edward Island athletes posted strong results at the Canadian senior track and field championships over the weekend.
Matthew Tanton of Summerside finished ninth overall in the men’s discus throw in his first year as a senior-level competitor. Tanton, who competed in the junior ranks last year, set a personal-best distance of 40.42 metres.
Bailey Smith of Mount Stewart qualified for the semifinal of the women’s 100 metres with a time of 12.25 seconds. Unfortunately, Smith had to withdraw due to an injury.
Damon MacDonald of Charlottetown set a personal-best time of 22.68 seconds in the 200 metres. MacDonald also had a strong 100-metre time of 11.06 seconds, but did not advance to the semifinals.
