SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The Charlottetown Islanders coughed up a third period lead in losing to one of the worst teams in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Friday in Saint John, N.B.
The Islanders held 2-0 and 3-2 period leads before losing 6-4 to the rebuilding Sea Dogs.
Maxim Cajkovic and William Poirier
scored twice for Saint John while singles went to Robbie Burt and Nicholas Deakin-Poot.
Brady Burns had three assists while Days Corner’s Charlie DesRoches and William Villeneuve, both defencemen, each had two.
Nikita Alexandrov had a goal and an assist for Charlottetown while Hunter Drew had three helpers.
Former Sea Dogs Kevin Gursoy and Daniel Hardie plus Derek Gentile also scored. Assists went to Noah Massie, William Sirman and Colin Van Den Hurk.
Alex D’Orio made 34 saves for the win while Dakota Lund-Cornish stopped 31 shots in the loss.
Saint John was 3-for-8 on the power play while Charlottetown was 1-for-2.
Saint John improved to 5-25-2-1 while Charlottetown dropped to 20-9-2-1.
The Islanders play their final game before the Christmas break Saturday in Halifax.
